The Roaring Twenties
After World War I, life was good. Certain foods started to be delivered to private homes. Convenience foods became available for purchase. Electricity became more available and electric appliances became more common. With the new conveniences, it resulted in more leisure time. People had more free time and used that time to listen to the radio, go to the movies, listen and dance to music, and much more exciting things! Women had found freedom of expression during this time period. Women bobbed their hairand wore clothing that exposed their arms and legs. They also began to use makeup, and drink and smoke. The women that had this trend were called flappers. Flappers were somewhat foolish girls who were inclined to revolt against the normal society. Women were given the right to vote in 1920. Seven women served in the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1920.
